What is Emergency Preparedness?

Emergency Preparedness is being physically prepared for the short term and long term challenges that we may face. The truth is that no one knows what the future holds and therefore it is wise to prepare for any disaster that might befall us. It doesn't mean that we have to invest thousands of dollars because we aren't going for luxury - we are going for survival. Consider the recent disasters that have occurred in the US in the last few years. In some situations, having emergency supplies would have saved lives and in many instances it would have kept persons alive and more comfortable while they are awaiting help.

We should think of what is needed should a catastrophe shut down our basic utilities for a few days, a few weeks or even longer. Would your family survive? Even though it's highly uncomfortable, a person can go without food for a short time - but can go without water for only a few days without causing severe and possibly permanent damage - even death. It is even harder on children, the elderly and persons with health problems.
